RX Radio is a radio station– run by and for children - at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. The initiative aims to create a platform for communication between hospitalised children, their families, and the health services by providing patients with the skills and support to produce and broadcast radio programmes across the hospital. In addition, we are a project initiated under the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital Facility Board.

In studio we had members of the Nasheed group from Darul Arqam Islamic High. For those who don’t know, a nasheed is a work of vocal music and are popular throughout the Islamic world. The material and lyrics of a nasheed usually focus on Islamic beliefs, history, and religion. Farah and Mawaddah were at RX Radio representing the group and spoke about their love for Nasheed.

In studio, we had Radio Personality and KFM presenter Liezel van der Westhuizen, who successfully completed the NSRI Robben Island Crossing last Thursday, swimming an incredible 7.5km from Robben Island to Blouberg to raise money for charity. According to the Givengain site, she has already raised R3,000 for the charity. Liezel completed the 7.5km of non-stop swimming with only a brief pause in the water to have a drink.
