RX Radio is a radio station– run by and for children - at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. The initiative aims to create a platform for communication between hospitalised children, their families, and the health services by providing patients with the skills and support to produce and broadcast radio programmes across the hospital. In addition, we are a project initiated under the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital Facility Board.

Anica Kiana is a break out 21-year-old singer / songwriter hailing from Cape Town, South Africa. In her teens, Anica spent all of her time honing in on her love for music, practicing whenever she got a moment and even taking part in every musical at her school. At the start of 2019, shortly after graduating high school, Anica set off to pursue her goal of becoming a force in the entertainment industry. After releasing 3 singles independently and garnering support from local radio stations, she quickly caught the eye of internationally acclaimed South African pop duo, Locnville, who featured her on their SAMA award winning album Tribes and Angels. The next two years would see the songstress develop her sound even more, eventually catching the attention of South African Global Hip Hop phenomenon, Nasty C who praise Anica Kiana for her “voice of gold”. The two would later go on to complete Anica’s formal Debut single, Gotta Leave, releasing 27 August 2021 from CBGSV Entertainment. There is no doubt that Anica Kiana is already solidifying her place in the entertainment industry, and is one to watch with a keen eye over the coming years.

Jonathan is a Clinical Technologist in Nephrology for the past 35 years and currently hold the position of Assistant Director Clinical Technology at Tygerberg Academic Hospital. He is also the current President of the Renal Care Society of South Africa, which aims to support and educate healthcare workers, patients and the general public on kidney disease. His areas of expertise include all therapies related to the treatment of kidney disease, such as dialysis and related procedures, as well as training and research. Hobbies include playing guitar and road running. Sr. Shirley is a specialized intensive registered nursing sister. She has been in nursing for 30 years. Shirley also forms part of the Nephrology team at Tygerberg Academic Hospital where she is currently the transplant coordinator specializing in kidney transplantation. Her role includes organ procurement and coordination of kidney transplant recipients of the living and deceased donor program. Shirley is also involved in education and awareness programs.

Tracy Cohen - Book Release - Tracy Cohen is a South African author
who has had her work published by some of South Africa’s leading broadcasters
such as News24, Sunday Times and Mediclinic Daily digital Magazine. She will be
talking to us about her new book “Triumph”, a book that she hopes will help tell
the stories of people living with Cerebral Palsy in a raw and intimate way while
educating the reader about the disability and what it’s like to live with one. Tracy
also lives with Cerebral Palsy, and she also has been volunteering and helping
raise funds for the station.

Michael Bars is a Rapper, Record Producer, Songwriter & amp; Studio Engineer who was born on the 22nd of February, 2002. In 2020, Michael Bars slowly gained recognition after the release of his single Pac-Man which featured Filipino rapper Michael Pacquiao. Shortly after that he released his debut Album Royal Rumble on the 29th of June 2020, it surpassed a million streams in the first few months and then followed up with the release of his 2nd studio album “Anarchy” on the 6th of October, 2020. In 2021, Michael Bars collaborated with Filipino artist Ez Mil on their single called Victorious and then released another track called Breaking Bad which featured Filipino rapper Loonie. After a few months in, Michael Bars later signed with “Sony Music Philippines” on the 23rd of September 2021. On the 31st of August 2022, Michael Bars released his 3rd studio album, Breaking Bad which featured Loonie, Mike Swift and Ez Mil. Within the first 24 hours, the album surpassed 120,000 streams on Spotify. Michael Bars Currently has over 10 million streams across all streaming Platforms.

Talitha Counter is an 18-year-old RX Radio reporter, who has a condition called Meningo enchafilitis, she has her own called Talitha’s Get down where she talks all things music and other topics she is passionate about. Talitha has recently been inducted as a Bright Star at the South Africa Radio Awards in 2022 and started her first year as a university student at the University of Cape Town to
pursue her studies in media.
