RX Radio is a radio station– run by and for children - at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. The initiative aims to create a platform for communication between hospitalised children, their families, and the health services by providing patients with the skills and support to produce and broadcast radio programmes across the hospital. In addition, we are a project initiated under the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital Facility Board.

Thaakirah Matthews and her sister, Sumayyah are RX Radio reporters who had their own show called Heart Beat with Sumayyah and Thaakirah. Thaakirah is a current patient at Red Cross Hospital who was born with a Critical Congenital Heart Disease. Together as a family, they established Brave Little Hearts SA (BLHSA) on 3 December 2014. It is a CHD awareness and advocacy group for parents and patients with CHD. BLHSA is also a proud member of Global Arch, an international organisation that brings together organizations from around the world to learn, collaborate, and speak out together about the unmet needs of those living with childhood-onset heart conditions.

Jill Benting is a youth development enthusiast who is passionate about sport and empowering those around her. She has a vast and in-depth experience in youth-focused Empowerment Programmes geared at unlocking hidden potential, and is currently managing two in-house youth empowerment programmes being implemented by the South African Foundation.
Joining her is Luqmaan Ismail. A life coach and life skill facilitator for 9 years. He is also an former professional rugby player, where he played for the Golden Lions as well as abroad. Luqmaan is a Laureus YES 2016 Alumni, and till today continue with youth development and leadership training for young people in our communities.

Growing up as a “ talk show boy “ Danté spent his afternoons from school watching daytime talk shows and always imagined himself as one of the Hosts and dreamed of one day being able to inspire others as much as talk show hosts had inspired him. In 2018 that dream became a reality.
Danté burst onto the scene as a fresh face 19 year old when he landed the coveted role as a television presenter on the nationally broadcasted daily-youth show, Hectic On 3 on SABC 3. Radio has been Dante’s latest venture in which he currently serves as a radio correspondent for the Western Cape’s number one commercial radio station , Kfm 94.5

Dj Cosher is a Cape Town Based Dj Producer and owner of Cosher Recording Studios. Before taking his place on the stage he was a Cricket Player and Coach, very quickly he illustrious career in the industry blossomed serving a long list of night clubs, restaurants and other events. You may recognise his voice where he headlined events such as K-Day, Rugby World Cup 7’s at the stadium and Official after parties such as Cold Play, Kings of Leon, Gypsy Kings and U2. Most notably his new single Mad World had caught National notoriety and climbed to into the Top 10 within three weeks.

Anthea Lewis (Skin Cancer Awareness): – A leader in the fight against cancer in SA, since 1931, the purpose of the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) is to offer a unique, integrated service to the public and to all people affected by cancer. It’s mission is to be the preferred non-profit leader that enables research with regards to lowering cancer risk, educating the public regarding symptoms, screening and risk reduction, and providing care and support to all people affected by cancer. Today we have Anthea Lewis from CANSA to talk more about this, especially since we’re in a hot, sunny summer.

David is a journalist with 26 years of experience working in media and communications, most of this gained in Southern Africa. In the 1990s, David was involved in advocacy in support of the fledgling community media sector in Southern and Eastern Africa, when he worked as Information Co-ordinator. For the last decade, David has spearheaded the development of creative methods for involving people living with and affected by HIV in social change communication, and was the founding director of the NGO Positive Vibes. David also holds an MA in Political Communication from Sheffield University in the United Kingdom

Author and recording artist, Unathi Kapa, was born and raised in the 1980”s in Ngojini Village in the former Ciskei. She gained her undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in Industrial Psychology, Political Science and Enterprise Management at Rhodes University. She writes and performs her poetry and is an avid social commentator. In her 2021 debut memoir she creatively narrates the story of her upbringing, a convoluted journey of bliss, tragedy and scorn while plagued by the incessant question 'Who am I?'
