RX Radio is a radio station– run by and for children - at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. The initiative aims to create a platform for communication between hospitalised children, their families, and the health services by providing patients with the skills and support to produce and broadcast radio programmes across the hospital. In addition, we are a project initiated under the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital Facility Board.

Dr Serini Murugasen is wrapping up our broadcast by discussing International Epilepsy Day. She is a paediatrician sub-specialising in Paediatric Neurology at Red Cross Children’s Hospital passionate about public health research as a way to improving care for all children across Africa, including those with chronic neurological conditions. Her main focus outside work is to be the best mother she can be to her two beautiful boys, who are her greatest gift.

M.A.D CPT was nominated for Mediapreneur of The Year in last year’s FOYA Awards, making it their third nomination for 2023. Earlier in 2023, the crew were nominated for Best Content Creator of the Year and founder Luweeg Luis, from Salt River, was nominated for Best Rapper of the Year at the Cape Town Artists Awards.

We wrapped up Comedy with a Twist by interviewing @marvi.major who started singing at the age of 5 in his parents living room. This Accounting Science Degree holder, later sang at church and in 2008 took to the stage by entering his first singing competition.
In 2020 when covid struck he decided to learn music theory and started producing his own music. This all led to his first single We’ll Be Okay being released on the 26th of December 2023.

To help us celebrate 100 years of radio in South Africa is Nancy Richards, a former independent journalist with a good few years experience on radio and in print. As a radio presenter, areas of specialisation included shows on literature, the environment and ‘women’s issues’. In print she’s covered environment matters, books and literature, lifestyle, travel and décor amongst other things. She has a podcast called Books Stories People and is founder of an NPO: @womanzonecapetown and The Women’s Library at the Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town.
